From Savage to Shaman is the life journey of an “All-American” man from an abusive childhood and the emotional trauma from flying fighter-jet bombing missions during the Vietnam war, to a compassionate man of peace, freedom, and joy. For years, Johnny drank alcoholically to dull the pain until it finally fell apart at age forty. Instead of continuing to run away from life, Johnny began walking towards life. After sobriety and retirement from the United States Air Force, he flew commercially with American Airlines and retired as a Captain.During sobriety, Johnny traveled the rocky road of recovery, experienced several awakenings, facilitated spiritual workshops, and practiced yoga and meditation at an Ashram in India. Johnny wishes to share his life experiences of strength, hope, and wisdom wherever he can to ease the suffering of others and help them find freedom and joy.
